Barton End Stables is a licensed riding centre, approved by both the British Horse Society (BHS) and as a Pony Club Link Centre. Based on our family run farm in Nailswoth, 4 Miles south of Stroud along the A46; Barton End Stables was established by Abby Blackwell in the year 2000 to provide a full range of services and activities for riders of all ages and abilities.
Riding School
Are you a complete novice looking for fun activities or wanting to learn some basics? Or a competent rider looking to improve your flat or jumping skills?. Whatever your age or level, you can be sure that we can help improve your riding in a fun, friendly and safe environment.
We are proud to offer 40 horses, so you can be sure we'll always have your perfect riding partner!
Our facilities include:
- Two all-weather floodlit schools

- Mini cross country course
- BHS Approved Instructors up to BHS II
- Catering facilities
- Ample parking for cars and horse boxes
We are very experienced at providing safe riding for those with special needs and are a centre for Minchinhampton Riding for the Disabled (RDA).
Hacking
We are proud to offer 15 different hacking routes, from 30 mins to 4 hours. You will be spoilt for choice with many off-road routes through countryside of outstanding natural beauty. All hacks are led by a qualified instructor and and for the grown ups we can even take you via some of our local hostelries!
Events
Looking for something different to do for a Birthday celebration or hen-do? Our pony parties are hugely popular with people of all ages and abilities. We'll happily cater for those with no previous riding experience, ensuring that they have a fun and safe first experience on horseback!We run regular competitions and during the holidays, great activities for kids including ride and groom days and pony picnics!
Livery
We have 30 boxes for full or part livery. Our prices include use of our covered, floodlit, all weather arenas, year round turnout, industrial washing machine and drying room, our own hay, bedding and lesson time subject to a fair usage policy and when pre-booked.
Backing and Breaking, Schooling and Re-Schooling
Are you in need of help and guidance with your horse? Do you want to prepare your horse for sale or competition? Whatever your needs, you can trust in our experienced, patient and sympathetic approach to help you to realise the full potential from your horse.
At Barton End Stables, our tried and tested short term livery with backing and breaking service will begin correct eduction for your horse and ensure the best introduction to its working life. For further education or to correct behaviour problems, we also offer a bespoke schooling livery service, tailored to bring you the results you'd like to achieve.
Part Ownership
Would you like to care for and have use of your own horse but without the time and financial responsibility of full ownership? At Barton End Stables we offer a very popular part ownership scheme. You enjoy the use of a horse for lessons, hacks or competition, whilst we also have use for our own lessons.
